Underwood

Underwood

Underwood tpyewriter with Pop Art design

The ‘Underwood Typewriter Company’ was founded in 1895 and headquartered in New York City (New York). Underwood produced the first truly modern typewriter.

In 1963 Olivetti took over the company and in the 1980s the Underwood name last appeared on Olivetti portable typewriters.

Underwood is a constant in pop culture, as films like ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’ refer to Underwood typewriters and authors like William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jack Kerouac wrote their famous works on them.

Chainmail I

GoldenNecklace

When doing the research on Art Deco, I found this chainmail necklace. Chainmail is a recurrent trend in jewelry and right now quite en vogue.

A very talented createur of chainmail jewelry is the Italian goldsmith Francesco Pavan, whose works can be found in this fabulous publication by the gallery ‘Slavik’: Art Meets Jewellery.

The gallery ‘Slavik’ focuses on international contemporary jewelry art and is located in the first district of Vienna. Its current exhibition is titled ‘A winter journey’ and works by Stefano Marchetti, Helfried Kodré, Lisa J. Defner, Jacqueline Ryan Will are on display.

Monumental

Monument

Monument in the ‘Schweizergarten’

The ‘Schweizergarten’ (Swiss Garden) is a park in the third district of Vienna, that was opened on the 5th June 1906 as ‘Maria Josefa Park’ (Maria Josefa was a member of the imperial family). The park was designed in the style of an English landscape garden.

1920 the park was renamed into its actual name. This was out of gratitude for the generous assistance of Switzerland after the end of World War I.

Martin Scorsese

MARTIN SCORSESE
10th January to 12th May 2013
Deutsche Kinemathek. Museum für Film und Fernsehen

Scorsese

Admittedly this exhibition does not take place in Vienna, but to legendary Martin Scorsese one can make an exception. The American filmmaker opened for the ‘German Cinematheque’ in Berlin his archives. The first ever exhibition on Scorsese includes video installations, original objects, script excerpts and original costumes from his movies and private life.
