ROBOT. Human and machine?
14th December 2012 to 14th July 2013
Technisches Museum Wien (Museum of Technology)
For a quite a longe time robots were pure fiction – think of Isaac Asimov’s robot series (1954 – 1985). Today they have conquered our real lives.
The new exhibition in the ‘Technisches Museum’ shows the history, current trends and visions of robotics. You can discover historical machines, the futuristic metal men of the 1950s, toy robots and mechanical engineering in the the world of art and modern industry.
An interesting fact: although most humanoid robots have allegedly no sex, they actually look like males. A fine example for the translation of our gender beliefs into new technology.

Wild at Heart
For those of you who are wild at heart and not so much into the noble stuff, I want to suggest the new ‘Wild at Heart’ store.

You can get your rock star style here, but you can also pay a visit to the in-store tattoo- and piercing studio INK:HOUSE.

Oh so noble IV

Oh so noble I …
The photo above shows the side street entrance to one of my favourite department stores in Vienna. It is the former E. Braun & Co store, that was founded in 1892/1893 as one of Vienna’s most noble fashion stores.
In the beginning mostly aristocratic brides shopped here for their big day and their later life as a married woman. And of course it soon became an exclusive supplier to the court of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (1911) .
Unfortunately the original store does not exist any more, but the fine building with the delicate interieur is still there. And also the later founded E. Braun & Co store on New York’s Park Avenue.
