The Venice International Film Festival — often called the Venice Film Festival or “La Mostra” — is the world’s oldest film festival, founded in 1932. It takes place every year on the Lido di Venezia, the beach island just east of Venice’s historic center.

The festival is part of La Biennale di Venezia and is one of the “Big Five” global film festivals alongside Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance. Major world premieres, Oscar contenders, auteur films, documentaries, and experimental cinema are shown there every year.
