The ‘Underwood Typewriter Company’ was founded in 1895 and headquartered in New York City (New York). Underwood produced the first truly modern typewriter.

In 1963 Olivetti took over the company and in the 1980s the Underwood name last appeared on Olivetti portable typewriters.

Underwood is a constant in pop culture, as films like ‘Moulin Rouge’, ‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?’, ‘Catch Me If You Can’ refer to Underwood typewriters and authors like William Faulkner, F. Scott Fitzgerald and Jack Kerouac wrote their famous works on them.

When doing the research on Art Deco, I found this chainmail necklace. Chainmail is a recurrent trend in jewelry and right now quite en vogue.

A very talented createur of chainmail jewelry is the Italian goldsmith Francesco Pavan, whose works can be found in this fabulous publication by the gallery ‘Slavik’: Art Meets Jewellery.

The gallery ‘Slavik’ focuses on international contemporary jewelry art and is located in the first district of Vienna. Its current exhibition is titled ‘A winter journey’ and works by Stefano Marchetti, Helfried Kodré, Lisa J. Defner, Jacqueline Ryan Will are on display.

Manner is a very traditional Viennese confectionery factory, which was founded in 1890. Its most famous product are the ‘Manner Original Neapolitaner Schnitten’ that were created in 1898. The name ‘Neapolitaner’ is a reference to the hazelnuts, which came from the area around Naples (Italy).
