For many years Austrian photographer Lois Hechenblaikner has been dealing critically with the ever expanding ski resorts in his home country: the construction of new ski lifts, the high consumption of resources by snow making systems, the wrapping of melting glaciers into foil, forest clearances, piles of garbage …

Hechenblaikner’s photos show the damaged nature and the not so nice face of Alpine mass tourism. His photographs document the wounds that the winter fun industry leaves in and around the big ski resorts.

As Hechenblaikner wanted to show his photos in Mayrhofen (Tryol/Austria) he was denied the exhibition room. This shows perfectly how sensitive the topic of Alpine mass tourism is in Austria.

Greco-Roman mythology is still omnipresent. Not only in art, theater, film and literature, but also in advertising. The ancient gods are popular motifs and employed as symbols of human vices and virtues. Therefore it is no wonder that they have to serve as namesakes for various brands.
