The Tichy Ice Cream Parlor at Reumannplatz in Vienna’s 10th district, Favoriten, across from the Amalienbad, is known for its patented ice cream apricot dumplings. It was founded in 1952 by Kurt Tichy Sr. (1925–1999) in a basement shop in Simmering, Vienna’s 11th district. From there, he and his wife initially supplied mainly allotment gardeners with ice cream products. In 1955, Tichy moved his business to its current location at Reumannplatz 13, on the corner of Rotenhofgasse. It was there that the famous ice cream apricot dumplings were produced for the first time.
